Why Lionfish?

Lionfish are native to the Indo-Pacific, but are now established along the southeast coast of the U.S., the Caribbean, and in the Gulf of Mexico. Since lionfish are not native to Atlantic waters, they have zero natural predators. They are carnivores that feed on small crustaceans and fish, including algae eating fish like parrotfish, which prevent coral from being smothered by algal coverage.

Lionfish reproduce year round. Once the female reaches maturity, she starts releasing 50,000 eggs every three days, and will continue to do so for the rest of her life. Most reef fishes only spawn once a year, so lionfish may quickly outnumber native fish populations if nothing is being done about their presence here.

During the past 10 to 20 years more and more divers and organizations have taken to hunting lionfish, to try to stop, or at least slow down the invasion. So we joined that initiative! They taste delicious and instead of throwing their beautiful fins away we transform them into unique pieces of jewelry. each with its unique color and pattern. With every piece of lionfish jewelry made we contribute saving a little bit of our reefs and you look great wearing it.
